Eating horses - eating dogs

It's surprising that in western cultures eating horse meat is still considered acceptable even though horses have a long time ago achieved a status of a pet, companion and competition colleague - instead that of a prey animal. Eating horse meat should be disapproved the same way as we in western cultures disapprove of eating dog or cat meat.
