Some 35 years ago I was told - in a lecture by some-one whose name I have forgotten, but who was an expert on world affairs like Daniel Wagner - that the Chinese simply do not like the Russians. I find it likely.

I think that it is the overwhelming Western culture that makes China and Russia behave cordially to each other. It won't help them much. Western culture will run over them, especially over Russia.
